In alignment with Governor Chukwuma Soludo's dedication to fostering a healthier and environmentally sustainable Anambra State, Prince Neville Uchendu, the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area (LGA), has launched the 'Operation Keep Orumba South Clean/Liveable' initiative, held at the Nkwo Umunze Market, Umunze, the headquarters for Orumba South LGA.
Commending Governor Soludo's
visionary strides in development, Prince Uchendu emphasized the potential
benefits of the initiated exercise. He underscored the importance of creating
awareness and sensitizing the community about the imperative for a healthier,
environmentally friendly, and economically stimulating atmosphere in Orumba
South.
Addressing market traders Prince
Uchendu strongly cautioned against the improper disposal of waste, particularly
throwing garbage into drains and waterways. He highlighted the severe
consequences, including the obstruction of water flow, pollution, and the
generation of unpleasant odors from improperly discarded organic waste.
Emphasizing the significance of responsible waste disposal, Prince Uchendu
stressed its crucial role in protecting both human health and the environment.
He urged them to maintain
cleanliness in their stalls daily, emphasizing its importance for the
well-being of everyone. He announced the introduction of an annual award to
recognize and commend the first three stalls in the Nkwo Umunze Market that
adhere to the highest cleanliness standards. This initiative aims to foster a
clean and appealing atmosphere in the market, promoting pride and healthy
competition among traders.
Prince Uchendu, emphasizing a
clean environment's role in public health and overall quality of life,
reiterated his commitment to preventing accidents and loss of life in the Local
Government. He specifically advised against street trading due to the risks
associated with accidents involving vehicles with brake failures. Prince
Uchendu called for collective efforts to make Orumba South the neatest LGA in
Anambra State, aligning with the broader goal of environmental friendliness.
Highlighting the broader impact
of prioritizing a clean environment, Prince Uchendu stated, "By taking
proactive steps to mitigate pollution, improve air quality, and safeguard
residents' health, we encourage socio-economic activities." He underscored
that the exercise aims to eliminate undesirable elements that might undermine
peace and economic advancement in Orumba South.
Encouraging residents to
support Governor Soludo's developmental projects, Prince Uchendu stressed the
pivotal role of a clean and sustainable environment in promoting health,
prosperity, and happiness for all. He concluded by affirming the council's
commitment to sustaining a desirable, clean, healthy, peaceful, and prosperous
environment in Orumba South.
Former Deputy Governor of
Anambra State, His Excellency, Engr. Emeka Sibudu, lauded Governor Soludo's
developmental strides and underscored the importance of a clean environment for
the council's well-being and economic prosperity. Engr. Sibudu emphasized zero
tolerance for any environmental and business activity against Governor Soludo's
vision. He highlighted the exercise's potential benefits, envisioning a clean,
liveable, and prosperous Orumba South as advocated by Governor Soludo.
The exercise, which kicked off
from the Local Government Area's headquarters, witnessed participation from
various stakeholders, including Umunze Town Union Executives, Youth Corps
Members, Commercial Tryclist Unions, Police, paramilitary agencies, Market
