In line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s initiative towards achieving a sustainable, healthy, clean, and livable Anambra State, the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, Hon. Ogochukwu Ekwueme, has officially flagged off the "Operation Keep Orumba North Clean initiative."
The ceremony, held at the
council headquarters in Ajalli, had in attendance critical state actors,
including traditional rulers, president generals, party leaders, women leaders,
youth leaders, and market union heads, amongst others.
Speaking during the launch, the
Orumba North Council Boss, Hon. Ogochukwu Ekwueme, noted that "Health is
wealth, and without health, there can be no wealth." Hence, the aim is to
finalize the ongoing war against filth with the official flagging of the
"Dobe Orumba North Ocha" initiative.
He emphasized that the program
also aimed at creating awareness and sensitizing the people about the need for
conscious and collective responsibility towards proper waste disposal. He
warned that indiscriminate dumping of refuse would attract severe penalties for
any defiant offenders caught in the act.
Hon. Ekwueme pointed out that the Dobe Orumba North Ocha Initiative, which also includes the security of lives and property of the people, is a top priority in the Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo led administration. He called on President Generals (PG's), women leaders, market leaders, and youth leaders to get involved and join hands towards building a healthy, livable, and prosperous Orumba North Council Area.
He commended Governor Soludo
for his initiative towards improving the health condition of the people and
urged the people of Orumba North to always keep their environs clean,
especially markets, and to shun un-environmental practices such as the disposal
of refuse in drainages and pollution, among others.
The Orumba North Mayor further
urged the council members to continue to support Governor Soludo’s
developmental efforts, stressing the importance of a clean, secure, and
sustainable environment in promoting the health, security, and prosperity of
the people.
Also speaking, the member
representing Orumba North in the Anambra State House of Assembly and the
minority whip of the house, Hon. Paul Ogbu, while lauding Governor Soludo’s
developmental strides in the State, stressed the importance of a clean and
healthy environment for the people of Orumba North, considering the hygiene,
health, and social benefits.
He called on Ndi Orumba North
to support the Council Chairman's initiative and adhere strictly to directives
to ensure a cleaner, healthier, and prosperous Orumba North Local Government
Area by conducting constant and proper sanitation exercises to avoid polluting
the environment and avert sanctions from the local government.
In his remarks, the traditional
ruler of Ndiokpalaeke, Igwe Chidozie Okoye, while expressing his happiness with
the brilliant initiative, lauded Governor Soludo and commended the Orumba North
Mayor for the wonderful program. He emphasized the importance of a healthy,
clean, and safe environment in the overall well-being of the people.
He noted the need for residents
to key into the program to prevent and possibly control the menace of
environmental hazards by supporting the initiative to ensure a healthy, safe,
and secured local government. He urged the entire community to continue to back
the State Governor and the TC Chairman to succeed in her efforts to sanitize
Anambra, as the saying goes, "cleanliness is next to godliness."
Other notable dignitaries who
attended the program include Orumba North Local Government APGA Chairman, Chief
Cyril Nwobu, Former Member Representing Orumba In Anambra State House of
Assembly, Hon. Emeka Aforka, Orumba North ASATU Youth Leader, Comrade Alfred
Ikechukwu Robbinson, Ward Councillors, amongst others.
The inauguration of the Waste,
Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Committee by the Orumba North Transition
Committee Chairman, and that of the Tax Force Team on Environment, which was
done by the member representing Orumba North in the State House of Assembly,
and the distribution of waste bins and bags, climaxed the event.
