Anambra Police Arrest Suspected Killers Of Community Leader

The Anambra State Police Command has announced the apprehension of several suspects linked to the brutal killing of Silas Onyima, the President-General of the Umuoji community in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state. The arrest was confirmed by the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Monday.

On Friday, unidentified gunmen, suspected to be assassins, invaded Onyima's residence, shooting him in the bathroom while he was taking a bath and inflicting him with several machete cuts.

While the police have not disclosed the number of individuals arrested, Ikenga mentioned that the arrests were based on intelligence gathering initiated by the state Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye. He assured that the police are diligently working on extracting valuable information from the suspects, with plans to make their identities public at an appropriate time.

Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo condemned the killing and urged state security agencies to take immediate and decisive action to apprehend the culprits. The governor emphasized the importance of swift prosecution to deter future incidents.

According to a police source, one of the arrested suspects is a tenant of the deceased who was found in possession of Onyima's phones, ATM cards, gun, and other items, attempting to withdraw money from the late Onyima’s account.

The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation at the divisional police station in Ogidi. Further details will be provided in a forthcoming press briefing by the Anambra State Police Command.
