Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah Criticizes Governor Soludo's Suspension Of Neni Monarch

In response to the suspension of Igwe Damian O. Ezeani, the traditional ruler of Neni in Anaocha Local Government Area, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South, expressed his discontent with Governor Soludo's decision.

The Anambra State Government, acting through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs, suspended Igwe Damian O. Ezeani on Monday. The suspension was related to the monarch conferring a chieftaincy title, 'Odenjinji' of Neni, upon Senator Ifeanyi Ubah without seeking clearance from the state government. The suspension letter, signed by Commissioner Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, accused the monarch of bestowing titles on individuals, including those with "questionable character."

Senator Ubah, in a statement on Tuesday, dismissed the suspension as a political move, claiming that Governor Soludo is frustrated by his rising popularity. He questioned the double standards, citing other dignitaries who received chieftaincy titles during the same period, including former Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and the President, who was honored in absentia.

"The governor is frustrated by my acceptance and popularity; he is jittery about the next governorship election, but I leave him to his conscience," remarked Senator Ubah.

The senator, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Young Progressives Party, is reportedly gearing up for the 2025 governorship election in Anambra State. Governor Soludo's Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, dismissed Senator Ubah's claims, stating that Soludo, enjoying overwhelming support in Anambra, is not worried about Ubah's political ambitions. Aburime emphasized that the monarch's suspension was due to a violation of the Code of Conduct for traditional rulers in Anambra, with no political motivations.
