Security Agencies Asked To Put Atiku, Others On Watchlist

The Anambra State Police Command has initiated a rigorous manhunt for the assailants responsible for the tragic demise of a couple, whose lifeless bodies were discovered in the boot of a car along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on Wednesday.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the police are actively pursuing leads in the investigation. In a statement released on Wednesday, Tochukwu revealed that the authorities had commenced a thorough examination of the incident.

Earlier in the day, pedestrians came across the gruesome scene of a man and a woman, both bearing violent marks and gunshot wounds, abandoned in a vehicle along the expressway. The chilling discovery unfolded at a desolate spot near Tempo Junction, Umunya area of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

Passers-by were shocked to find the two fresh, blood-drenched corpses accompanied by expended cartridges at the crime scene. The police suspect that the victims were callously abandoned after falling victim to a brutal crime. The recovered bodies have been transported to the mortuary for a detailed autopsy.

Tochukwu stated, "The operatives have also recovered the car in which the bodies were found, a black Corolla, with registration plate number Lagos AAA 621 EU. The bodies, a poignant reminder of the crime, were then deposited in the morgue, and investigations have begun."

Video footage circulating on social media captures the dark-colored Toyota Corolla surrounded by onlookers, its doors ajar, revealing the grim sight of the two deceased individuals confined to the trunk.

The unsettling images portray a fresh crime scene, evident from the blood seeping from beneath the vehicle boot. The Anambra State Police Command, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

This tragic incident follows a recent episode in Uga, where a man was reportedly shot in the leg during an attack that claimed the lives of two policemen on December 29, 2023. Authorities are intensifying efforts to apprehend those responsible for these heinous crimes.
