Husband’s Misconception Leads To Betrayal, Abduction, And Attempted Assassination

Astonished wife’s Journey from Victim to Victor

In a chilling turn of events that unfolded in 2015, Noela Rukundo, a Burundi  born Australian woman, travelled to Burundi to attend her stepmother's funeral, only to find herself ensnared in a nightmarish ordeal orchestrated by none other than her husband, Balenga.

Shortly after the funeral, Noela, seeking a moment of solace, was abruptly abducted at gunpoint, blindfolded, and transported to a safe house in an unknown location. There, she faced a shocking revelation from her captors—who posed the ominous question, "What did you do for this man to pay us to kill you?"

“What are you talking about?” said Noela, she was shaking uncontrollably.

“Balenga sent us to kill you.”

“What? My husband will never do that, you’re lying!”

Her captors smirked and giggled. She then heard a phone dialling and a voice coming from a loud speaker:

The gravity of the situation became apparent as her husband's involvement emerged, with a chilling phone call ordering her execution.

“Kill her”

Overwhelmed with disbelief, Noela fainted, only to awaken later on the side of a road, unharmed. Astonishingly, the hitmen, motivated by a code of ethics, had spared her life, sharing the evidence and recordings of her husband's sinister plot. Empowered by this unexpected twist, Noela seized the opportunity to expose the truth and seek justice.

Returning to Australia, Noela discovered the disturbing ruse her husband had perpetrated: he had declared her dead, leading friends to mourn her at a fabricated funeral. Armed with the support of the Kenyan and Belgian embassies, she meticulously planned her revenge.

On the night of February 22, 2015, as Balenga bid farewell to the last of his neighbors who had come to offer condolences, Noela confronted him—shattering his illusion of her demise. Balenga, taken aback and filled with remorse, pleaded for forgiveness. However, justice prevailed as he was apprehended, pleaded guilty, and received a nine-year prison sentence for incitement to murder.

Investigations into Balenga's motives revealed a tragic misunderstanding—he believed Noela was leaving him for another man, a misconception that ultimately unraveled their lives. Today, Noela Rukundo resides in Melbourne with her eight children, embodying a remarkable story of resilience, justice, and an unexpected reversal of fortunes that transformed her from a victim into a victor.
