In a bid to advance technological innovation across sectors such as communication, transport, healthcare, and connectivity, the Anambra State Government has entered into a collaborative venture with leading high-tech entities from the United States.
Last Friday, in Lagos, Governor
Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo engaged in discussions with the US Consul-General,
William Stevens, alongside key leaders of American high-tech companies. The
meeting aimed to explore strategic partnerships, corporate alliances,
technology collaboration, and innovation.
In a press statement, Izuchukwu
Adichie, the Senior Special Assistant for New Media to Governor Soludo,
highlighted the significance of the meeting as an opportunity to bolster
economic development and foster shared technology and prosperity between Anambra
State and the United States.
Governor Soludo envisions
transforming Anambra into a digital and creative hub for Nigeria, with plans to
develop the Silicon Valley of Africa - the Solution Innovation District. The
state aims to integrate technologies into various aspects of life.
Anambra State is actively
pursuing partnerships to attract US firms, leveraging its top ranking by the
World Bank Index for ease of doing business in southern Nigeria and seventh overall
among Nigeria's 36 states.
Adichie underscored the state
government's commitment to developing high technology capabilities, noting
efforts to train a new digital workforce through the Solution Innovation
District's programs. The SID has already impacted over 40,000 residents and
trained 25,000 youths in diverse technology skills, enhancing their
productivity both locally and internationally.
Governor Soludo and his
delegation presented the state's strategic plan to build an innovation hub
ecosystem, a crucial element in the proposed smart mega-city project.
The Anambra State delegation to
the US Government's high-technology partnership meeting included Commissioner
for Industry, Christian Udechukwu; Special Adviser to the Governor on
Innovation and Business Incubation, Ms Chinwe Okoli; and Managing Director of
Anambra State ICT Agency, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata.
Representatives from prominent
US high-tech companies such as ATC, Shekel Mobility Africa, KPMG, Amazon,
Microsoft, Google, and many others attended the meeting, signifying the
substantial interest and potential for collaboration between Anambra State and
these leading tech enterprises.
