In a significant move to bolster grassroots economic
development, Senator Uche Ekwunife, CON, Director-General of the South East
Governors’ Forum, on Thursday, handed over a newly constructed market building
to the people of Abatete in Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State.
The market, located at Eke Abatete, is clear
proof of Senator Ekwunife’s enduring commitment to enhancing the socio-economic
well-being of her constituents. Designed to provide a structured and enabling
environment for indigenous traders, the facility is expected to stimulate local
commerce, promote entrepreneurship, and serve as a hub for sustainable
community growth.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Senator
Ekwunife underscored the long-term vision of the project, describing it as “an
investment in posterity.” She emphasized the importance of infrastructure in
driving prosperity and reiterated her dedication to grassroots development
through meaningful, people-centered interventions.
“This market is not just a building; it is a
catalyst for economic empowerment. It will enable our traders to operate in a
safe, dignified, and organized space,” she stated.
The event drew an impressive turnout of community
leaders and stakeholders, including Chief Lawrence Okoye, President General of
Abatete Town Union; Chief Emeka Iloegbunam (Ukpaka Nyilegbe); Chief Edwin
Enyokwa (Obi Ogbu); and Chief Nnayelude Aroh, among others, who praised the
senator’s impactful leadership and generosity.
