Mr. Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the last general elections in a recent statement issued via his X handle on Saturday, , urged Nigerian youths to persevere and unite in their efforts to dismantle the pervasive criminality and corruption within various levels of the government.
Obi delivered this advice
during his keynote address at a program centered on "Accelerating Actions
to Achieve the SDGs in Nigeria Through Entrepreneurship and Civic
Engagement," held in Enugu State on Friday.
Highlighting the significance
of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a successor to the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs), Obi lamented the lack of achievement of the MDGs in
Nigeria by their conclusion in 2015. He noted that unlike in other countries
such as China, India, and Vietnam, the MDGs were not effectively integrated
into the development agenda of the Nigerian government.
Emphasizing the need for
entrepreneurship, Obi encouraged youths to embrace it despite the challenges
faced in the country. He stressed that fostering a robust small business sector
through entrepreneurship is crucial for catalyzing the economy, promoting productivity,
and shifting the nation from consumption to production.
Obi passionately reminded the
young generation that Nigeria belongs to them, urging them not to succumb to
the difficulties posed by challenges and the prevalent bad governance. He called
on them to raise their voices and demand good governance, emphasizing the
collective responsibility to work together in dismantling criminality and
corruption that has entrenched itself across different levels of the
government.
The statement concluded with
Obi's reaffirmation of the imperative for perseverance and collaborative
efforts in building a better future for Nigeria.
Mr. Peter Obi's remarks come at
a critical juncture as Nigerian youths are called upon to play an active role
in reshaping the nation's trajectory, advocating for good governance, and
striving to eradicate corruption at all levels.*
