- Seeks construction of Building Materials/Ogidi Court road
The President-General of the Building Materials International Market, Ogidi, Chief Jude Nwankwo (Ochoudo), has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State for the massive road construction and rehabilitation projects underway in various parts of the state.
This includes the Operation Zero Potholes initiative, which was launched to commence simultaneously in the 21 Local Government Areas, ensuring a smooth ride during the Christmas season.
Speaking in his office at BMIM,
Ogidi, Chief Nwankwo, who is also the Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders
Association (ASMATA) Patron, praised Soludo for awarding contracts for up to
400 kilometers of roads and for successfully completing more than half of these
projects.
He also commended the State
Government for the Operation Zero Potholes, a collaborative effort with the LGA
Chairmen and private individuals to carry out palliative works on major roads
across many communities. This initiative aims to ensure the smooth movement of
vehicles on roads that are typically busy during festive periods.
Chief Nwankwo appealed to
Governor Soludo to prioritize the construction of the major access road to
various parts of the market, which he noted is less than one kilometer in
length. Emphasizing the road's significance to the market, Chief Nwankwo
explained that its poor condition contributes to market flooding during heavy
rains.
"Governor Soludo has
performed admirably in the area of roads, embarking on the construction of over
300 kilometers so far. I urge Soludo to extend his efforts to the Building
Materials International Market, Ogidi, and complete the construction of the
BMIM to Ogidi High Court road, which traders built through self-help. It is
less than a kilometer; let him address the drainage issues and asphalt it for
us," said Nwankwo.
While acknowledging the
governor's achievements in enhancing security since assuming office, Chief
Nwankwo urged Soludo to intensify efforts to eliminate insecurity, ensuring
people feel secure during Christmas activities.
The President-General further
pleaded with the Governor to consider compensating house/property owners whose
properties were demolished without compensation due to unauthorized
construction.
"I plead with Soludo to
show compassion and compensate those who built recklessly without proper
authorization. He should consider the economic hardship in the country and
temper justice with mercy, acknowledging that nobody builds without someone in
government giving approval and collecting money, whether through the right or
wrong process," he emphasized.
