The Federal Polytechnic Oko Alumni Association is set to establish the Retired General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida International Museum at the Federal Polytechnic Oko. Additionally, the association will institute the Retired General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida GCFR Public Annual Lecture series during its Annual Award Ceremony at the Polytechnic Auditorium in Oko.
The inaugural lecture, themed
"The Ingenuity of Retired General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and the
Making of Federal Polytechnic Oko," is scheduled for December 15, 2023.
Professor Eugene Nwadialor, the Vice Chancellor of Tansian University Umunnya
Anambra state and former Rector of Anambra State Polytechnic Oko during its
transition to Federal Polytechnic Oko, will deliver the lecture.
In a press release by the
Association's National President, Nze Henry Chukwuka Nnebe, it was emphasized
that Federal Polytechnic Oko has undergone significant transformations since
its establishment in 1979. The institution's evolution into a prominent
learning center, known as "The Polytechnic of the Moment," has
produced notable graduates, reflecting its educational prowess.
The release highlights the pivotal role played by Retired General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida during his presidency in 1992 when the institution transitioned from "Anambra State Polytechnic Oko" to "Federal Polytechnic Oko." The generous donation from the federal government during his visit led to the enhancement of the Mass Communication Department and overall infrastructure.
Nze Henry Chukwuka Nnebe, who
was the Speaker of the Students Union during General Ibrahim Badamasi
Babangida's visit to the Polytechnic in 1992, praises the sagacious human
resources management of Prof. Eugene Nwadialor. The latter's leadership, marked
by prudent resource management, played a crucial role in the institution's
growth.
The Alumni President
underscores the need to immortalize the visionaries and pioneers of the
institution, including Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme, Mr. Lawrence Onuorah
Ndu, Prof. Ezeilo, Chief Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo, Rear Admiral Alison Madueke,
and Prof. Eugene Nwadialor.
The Association plans to use
the Retired General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Annual Public Lecture to recount
the institution's journey, share experiences, and explore ways to enhance it
through research and learning. Additionally, the establishment of the Ibrahim
Badamasi Babangida International Museum will document the institution's
history, events, and contributions to science and technology in Nigeria.
