... As Fedpoly Oko Holds Interdenominational Carol Of Nine Lessons
By Uzo Ugwunze
The Christmas season is described as a time for sober reflection and appreciation to God for the gift of His son, Jesus Christ, bringing salvation and reconciliation to humanity.
At the 2023 Annual Christmas
Carol and Nine Lessons at Federal Polytechnic Oko, the Rector, Dr. Francisca
Unoma Nwafulugo, expressed gratitude for life and achievements in
infrastructural projects and human capital development. Mrs. Nwafulugo
emphasized the need to reflect on relationships with neighbors and with God, considering
life as a gift and an opportunity to improve the lives of others.
"Christmas is a
celebration of the love of God, demonstrated for humanity. Therefore, it is a
season to reflect on our individual relationships with neighbors and God. Life
is a gift, and how we engage with it to improve the lives of others is paramount,"
Mrs. Nwafulugo stated. She urged pursuing love and kindness for one another,
drawing parallels with Jesus demonstrating God's love through salvation and
reconciliation.
Reflecting on her tenure, the Rector mentioned initiating the annual Christmas carol three years ago to promote interfaith partnership, cooperation, unity, love, and a sense of community within the polytechnic. She encouraged the incoming administration and the three major chaplains to continue the Christmas Carol and Nine Lessons program. Mrs. Nwafulugo urged caring for one another, making sacrifices, being good towards others, and contributing to the growth and development of Federal Polytechnic Oko.
"We have made substantial
progress with the construction of 17 buildings and ongoing infrastructural
projects. All the programs in this Polytechnic are accredited, and staff
development and welfare have been prioritized," said Engr. Dr. Mrs.
Nwafulugo, expressing gratitude for the achievements despite challenges.
Revd Canon Chigozie Obiwulu delivered
a sermon on "Reminiscing the Birth of Jesus," highlighting Jesus'
birth in a manger as a symbol of humanity's depravity and life's misery. He
emphasized Jesus as the author of peace and condemned the attitude of those
seeking material gains in church instead of pursuing a relationship with Jesus.
In a vote of thanks, the Ag.
Registrar, Mr. Obini Onuchukwu, commended the chaplains for providing spiritual
direction and molding students in character. He thanked the Management team for
transformative efforts, appreciating the Rector for her role in elevating the
polytechnic. Onuchukwu called for support for the Rector and the Management.
The carol, organized with the
three chaplaincies—Chapel of the Light, St. Augustine's Catholic Chaplaincy,
and Chapel of Transfiguration—saw the presence of the Rector, Principal Officers,
Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, Union leaders, as well as staff and
students.
