Anambra's Former Political Appointees Unite For A Distinct Agenda, Host Landmark Reunion In Awka

 By Ndife David, Awka.

It was indeed a happy yet sober moment as Obiano appointees who served in the Anambra State Government between 2014 and 2022 converged at Best Western Meloch Hotel in Ifite Awka last weekend to celebrate life and unity and also to honour the memory of their departed colleagues.

The grand union, organized to serve as a platform for the former political appointees to form a formidable force capable of supporting the government, took place at Best Western Melock Hotel in Awka. They had played critical roles in the 2017 Anambra governorship polls, leading to the re-election of former Governor Chief Willie Obiano after securing victory in all 21 local government areas.

Declaring the event open, the Convener, Hon. Owelle Mbaso, while welcoming the appointees, stated that the primary aim of the reunion is for the appointees to meet, appreciate, and encourage each other for their service, success, and achievements in the past administration.

He emphasized that the mission of the group is divine, noting his decision not to host the event during the election period. He opined that only sycophants would resort to cheap blackmail to safeguard their seats in the system by propagating rumors against the group.

Hon. Mbaso expressed his happiness and satisfaction with the fact that he has had the opportunity to serve and groom many notable and highly placed political office holders, as attested by the Deputy Governor, who was also present at the event.

He pointed out that he respects constituted authority, and since politics is a game of interest and only God approves leaders, he has no interest in Soludo's Administration. However, he acknowledged the efforts of Governor Soludo in delivering good governance in Anambra, affirming his decision not to intrude into Prof. Chukwuma Soludo's government.

While regretting the death of 42 of their departed colleagues, who had served the state meritoriously, he urged the former appointees to honor their memories and legacies by applying diligence and dedication where they are called to serve.

Also speaking, the Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim, commended the host, Hon Owelle Onyeka Mbaso, for organizing the intriguing event and encouraged him to utilize the opportunity effectively to promote peace for the betterment of all. He noted that the majority of the former appointees are from Anambra.

According to him, the high point of the gathering was a few days ago when he saw the names of former appointees who had left the earth, stating that when he thinks of many things, he proffered solutions.

Dr. Ibezim pointed out that Governor Soludo was also a former appointee, having served as the chairman of the board of Golden Tulip Hotel Agulu, and noted the need for synergy and collaboration between the group and the present administration.

Lending his voice, a former appointee and also an APGA stakeholder, Chief Ben Obi, stated that the essence of the gathering is to reunite, celebrate, and thank God for their lives and achievements. He noted that there is no political undertone to the event.

While expressing his excitement and satisfaction at seeing his old friends, he noted that the reunion had members of various political parties in attendance and urged Ndi Anambra to continue to pray for peace and progress in the state.
