Soludo Declares Progress In The Battle Against Insecurity In Anambra

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has asserted that the APGA-led government in the state is making significant strides in the fight against insecurity, resulting in a safer environment compared to previous conditions.

Governor Soludo made the disclosure during an interview with reporters following a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday. During the meeting, he reiterated the state's steadfast commitment to maintaining zero tolerance for touts and criminal elements.

Emphasising security, law, and order as top priorities for the APGA-led administration in Anambra, Governor Soludo highlighted the successful efforts of the State Anti-touting Squad. He recalled the arrest of over 600 touts in various parts of Onitsha and surrounding areas within a week after the squad's launch, contributing to the current calmness in Anambra State.

"Anambra is calm, very calm, and I can tell you it should be certainly one of the top three in terms of the safety of lives and property. Security, law, and order are our priority; we don’t condone touting. All these people collecting illegal revenue and trying to extort and expropriate from people innocently will be kicked out," he affirmed.

Governor Soludo, underscoring Anambra as a hub of commerce, expressed the government's unwavering commitment to preventing the harassment of citizens by touts. He conveyed a message to those engaged in such activities, urging them to seek productive engagement instead. Governor Soludo encouraged individuals seeking employment to come forward, promising training opportunities and start-up funds for those willing to embark on a new and lawful path.

"But if you choose to expropriate from others innocently, then we have no room for that in Anambra State. So if you are a tout, go elsewhere. But if you are seeking productive engagement, that’s Anambra; it is a home of enterprise, not a home for lazy people who want to get something for nothing," he concluded.
