Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has sanctioned the revitalization of 68 inactive water schemes situated in various parts of the state.
The announcement was made by
the Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka,
during an interactive session with vendors and contractors in Awka, the state capital.
At the session, he provided an overview of the state government's commitment to
the resuscitation efforts.
This decision comes on the
heels of the recent Operation Light Up Anambra initiative, where diesel-powered
streetlights in Nkwelle-Ezunaka were converted to solar streetlights,
transforming the community's nighttime appearance. Commissioner Chukwuemeka
emphasized Governor Soludo's campaign promise to ensure clean and portable
water for the people of Anambra. The approval to revive 68 water schemes across
the state is viewed as a concrete step towards fulfilling this pledge.
The Commissioner highlighted
the strategic installation of solar systems in these water schemes, aiming not
only to reduce operational costs but also to champion environmental
sustainability. This move aligns with Governor Soludo's vision for a more
eco-friendly and cost-effective water supply infrastructure.
Commissioner Chukwuemeka urged
vendors and contractors to uphold standards, reflecting the Governor's
insistence on delivering high-quality results in the resuscitation process.
This emphasis on diligence and adherence to timelines underscores Governor Soludo's
commitment to efficient project execution, ensuring timely delivery of improved
water supply services to the state's residents.
Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzoka, the
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, provided additional insights into Governor
Soludo's broader objectives in the water and power sectors, emphasizing the
goal of providing consistent water supply to both urban and rural areas in the
state. This broader perspective on the water resuscitation project underscores
the Governor's dedication to enhancing overall public health and well-being.
Managing Director of Anambra
State Water Resources Management, Hon. Ikeobi Ejiofor, urged vendors to focus
on delivering a standard job on time, reflecting the Governor's emphasis on
accountability and efficiency. He highlighted Governor Soludo's
administration's commitment to not only completing projects but ensuring their
successful and timely execution to swiftly deliver improved services to the
people.
