Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the recent general elections, has expressed concern that the Nigerian government is overlooking the most crucial sectors in the country. The former governor of Anambra State specifically identified Education, Health, and Poverty Eradication as the sectors in dire need of attention.
Speaking at the National Convention of the Old Boys of Nsukka High School (Anglican Grammar School), Nsukka, Enugu State, the 62-year-old businessman emphasized his passion for education and other vital sectors. Despite attending Christ the King College, Onitsha, he desires to see Nigerian schools competing with Western institutions in terms of quality and overall environment.
During his address at the
National Convention 2023, Obi recounted his experience as the Governor of
Anambra State, highlighting how he partnered with voluntary agencies to address
the neglect of critical sectors such as Education, Health, and Poverty
Eradication. He commended the Old Boys for their dedication to maintaining high
educational standards and encouraged them to further contribute to the cause.
It is noteworthy that Peter Obi secured the third position in the last presidential election with 6,101,533 votes, while President Bola Tinubu emerged victorious with 8,794,726 votes. Despite his enthusiastic pursuit of a new Nigeria, Obi continues to actively work towards its realization, contributing significantly to education and other crucial sectors.
