The President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, CFR, has extended felicitations to HRH Majesty, Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe, CFR, Agbogidi, the Obi of Onitsha, on the occasion of his 2023 Ofala festival.
Iwuanyanwu, represented by
Anambra state Ohaneze Ndigbo leaders, including Emmanuel Okafor, a retired
Director of Accounts, and others led by Elder Dr. Nnana Egwu, commended the
elegant and ancient Onitsha Kingdom, skillfully guided and polished by His
Majesty Alfred Achebe for the past 22 years on the esteemed throne, with its
social splendour and majestic grandeur. He wished him many more years of good
health and vitality.
Dr. Nnana Egwu further
congratulated His Royal Majesty for his pragmatic focus on community
development and socioeconomic programmes, aimed at empowering Onitsha's youth
through skill acquisition, aligning with Governor Chukwuma Soludo's
"Youths to Skill" development paradigm.
In his message, His Majesty
Alfred Achebe, who described the theme of the 2023 Ofala festival as
"Better, Stronger, and Together," lists his achievements during his
21 years on the throne and commends "The Onitsha Advancement Foundation
(OnAF)" for its steadfastness in initiating and implementing plans, programmes,
and projects to support the state government's development efforts, making
Onitsha a model of civilized urban growth and development.
Anambra state Governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, attended the event with his wife and daughter, praising Igwe Achebe for his commendable leadership and efforts to improve the living standards of the Onitsha metropolis, including the greater Onitsha area comprising five local government councils, namely Onitsha North and South, Ogbaru, Idemmili North, and Oyi.
The ebullient Governor states
that Onitsha will progress with the massive infrastructure and projects,
cleaning blocked drainages, addressing slums and ghettos in Okpoko, desilting
blocked drainages, and encouraging youth to enroll in the "Youths to Skill"
acquisition program, all aimed at revitalizing the ancient urban center and
making it a livable and proud symbol for Ndigbo.
The glamorous occasion featured
traditional dances by Ndi Ichie Onitsha, the Otu ODU women's troupe, and
notable individuals, including the presidential candidate for the Labour Party,
Mr. Peter Obi, members of the clergy, Vice Chancellor of Paul University, Prof
Obiora Nwosu, and other distinguished guests.
