Youths Urged To Unlock Their Potential For A Brighter Future

As part of her vision to give the Teenagers and Young Adults a platform for personal development, self-awareness and opportunities to harness their full potentials, the Esteemed Teens International held a conference for Teenagers and Young Adults with the theme "No Excuses" on Saturday 23rd September, 2023 at Unizik ASSU Secretariat, Awka

Speaking at the event the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Innovation and Business Incubation, Hon. Chinwe Okoli, identified mentorship as a key to sustainable development in the lives of teenagers. She encouraged the teenagers present to take mentorship seriously as an essential part of their lives.

"Mentorship is undeniably a cornerstone of sustainable development in the lives of teenagers, and its significance cannot be overstated. Mentors offer insights gained through their experiences, helping teenagers navigate the complex journey of life. Through mentorship, youths gain access to a wealth of knowledge, support, and encouragement that can empower them to make informed decisions and set meaningful goals," she said.

“Mentorship is like a compass on the journey of life. It provides you with guidance, direction, and a wealth of knowledge that you won't find in textbooks.

She urged them to embrace mentorship as it can bridge gaps in opportunity, particularly for those facing adversity, by providing access to networks and resources that may otherwise be inaccessible.

A resource person, Kingsley Ime, who spoke on Building Intentional Relationships, stated that the conference help teenagers and young adults to learn values that can help them become better individuals in society.

He said building intentional relationships requires respect, trust, and a shared vision for personal and collective development. That when relationships, are nurtured, it creates a support system that not only helps someone become better but also contributes to societal betterment.

"In a world filled with constant distractions and superficial connections, it's crucial that we understand the value of intentional relationships. These are the bonds we form when we actively choose to connect with others, not just for the sake of it, but with a purpose; to learn, grow, and contribute positively to society," he emphasized.

He urged them to reflect on the relationships in their lives, questioning whether they are contributing to their growth and the betterment of society.

Another resource person, Solomon Otah, spoke on Mindset Architecture as a potential tool for all-around success, hinting that having a positive mindset is what every teenager needs to excel in life.

He pointed out that the power of the mind is an incredible force that shapes reality and determines destiny. The mind is the driving engine behind people's thoughts, actions, and ultimately, their achievements. He likened the mind to a limitless reservoir of potential waiting to be tapped into.

"When you believe in the power of your mind, you unlock the ability to overcome obstacles, pursue your dreams, and turn adversity into opportunity. Your thoughts have the power to shape your attitude, and your attitude shapes your actions. As the saying goes, 'Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right. Your mind is your greatest asset on the journey to success and fulfillment,'" he explained.

He encouraged them to train their minds to see possibilities where others see limitations, to embrace this power, nourish it with belief, and watch as it transforms their lives, making the seemingly impossible to be possible.

The organisers of the conference, Miss Ujunwa Ezenne and Onyekaonwu Victory, said that their passion to empower teenagers and help them toward building a better future motivated them to host the conference.

They stated, "Our journey as organisers of this youth conference is deeply rooted in our unwavering passion to empower teenagers and contribute to the creation of a better, more promising future.

“We believe in the incredible potential that resides within each and every young person, and it is this belief that fuels our dedication to this cause. We are driven by the conviction that by empowering teenagers today, we are sowing the seeds for a brighter, more compassionate, and prosperous future for all."
