During the reception in honor of Nyesom Wike, the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio, replied to Wike for revealing that he gave him N200 million during his campaign for the governorship election in 2015.
Akpabio stated that the N200 million he gave him was from his personal savings as the manager of the telecommunication industry, not from the Akwa-Ibom government.
Akpabio stated that he has to make those clarifications so as to avoid issues in the future. He however praised the former governor for his various achievements in his state, and stated that he represents a pillar in the 10th Senate. He added that they’re delighted to have him as an honorary member of the 10th National Assembly.
According to him, “On a very personal note, your Excellency, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, you said in the church that the then Governor Godswill Akpabio assisted you with some money when you were running; that money came from my savings in the telecom industry. The money was not from the government of Akwa-Ibom State.
You said that I assisted you in 2014 or thereabouts when you were running for governorship of Rivers State; that money was from my savings in the telecom industry when I was a managing director. It was not from the government of Akwa-Ibom State, so I felt I should make this correction. I paid tax on that money in Lagos.
