South African police on Monday announced the arrest of a man suspected of disseminating pornographic images that featured the faces of President Cyril Ramaphosa, Police Minister Bheki Cele, and Cele's wife.
The man is set to make an appearance in court in Pretoria, the country's capital, on Tuesday. He faces charges for violating the Cyber Crimes Act, which encompasses unlawful access or manipulation of computer data.
According to the police, the 34-year-old
shared these images on social media platforms, distributing them to both police
officers and the general public. The investigation was initiated in May
following the initial circulation of the images, and the suspect was located
and arrested in Pietermaritzburg, an eastern city.
While South Africa permits the possession of
pornography, there are certain restrictions on its distribution.
