Jose Mourinho has reportedly turned down the chance to return to Chelsea after Graham Potter was sacked as manager last month. The 60-year-old has just over a year left on his current contract with the Serie A side and Mourinho guided the club to Europa League glory in the opening round of the tournament last season.
The
Giallorossi have struggled in the league this season - currently sixth in
Serie A - but managed to reach
the last four of the Europa League under the
former Blues boss. According to
The Mirror, Mourinho has rejected Chelsea's approach to discuss a possible return to Stamford
Bridge at the start of next season.
The
report claims Mourinho was approached by
one of Chelsea's executives after he was named in the vacancy, but the Roma boss is said to have
"no interest" in joining the west London club. Roma travel to Monza in Serie A on Wednesday
night looking to finish in the top four
ahead of Champions League semi-finalists Inter
and Milan.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are expected to press ahead with plans to name Pochettino as their new head coach after holding constructive talks with the highly-rated Argentine, who has been unattached since leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
If Pochettino and Chelsea can finalise an
agreement, it is believed Lampard will see out the rest of the season in his
interim role, with Pochettino taking charge from the summer.
The Blues are currently languishing in the
bottom half of the Premier League after losing all five of their games since
Lampard return to the helm. Chelsea face Arsenal in a crunch London derby on
Tuesday night at the Emirates after losing 2-1 against Brentford last week.
