CR7 as Ronaldo is famously known was born on 5th February 1985 in Madeira, Portugal. His father was Jose Dinis Aveiro and his mother was Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro. His father was a gardener with the municipality and his mother worked as a cook. They have four children and Ronaldo was the youngest child among them. He is playing for Androrinha since he was eight years old. Then in 1995, he joined the club ‘National’ which is located in his hometown of Madrid.

He was born just a month after the actor-turned-politician Reagan had been sworn in for his second term in the White House. He was named after Ronald Reagan, “My parents named me after [Ronald Reagan] because they both liked this name and thought it sounded strong, ‘’ said Ronaldo.

 

Ronaldo’s nickname is CR7’s but growing up was nicknamed Little Bee and Cry Baby. This might seem expensive but Forbes reported that in 2016, Ronaldo’s social media presence generated $474 million in value for Nike via 329 posts. This was when he had 240 million followers across platforms and today, he has 395 million on Instagram alone, making him the most followed person on the platform.

Throughout his career, Ronaldo has actively supported numerous charitable endeavors. In response to the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, Ronaldo's compassion was evident as he visited Aceh, Indonesia, where he witnessed the remarkable story of an eight-year-old boy named Martunis. The television footage captured the emotional journey of Martunis, who wore a Portuguese football shirt and endured 19 days of isolation after losing his family. Ronaldo's visit aimed to generate funds for the vital tasks of rehabilitation and reconstruction in the region.

 

Following a libel case against The Sun newspaper in 2008, Ronaldo accepted undisclosed damages. Demonstrating his philanthropic nature, he donated the entirety of the damages to a charitable organization based in Madeira, Portugal.

 

In 2009, Ronaldo displayed his gratitude towards the hospital that played a vital role in saving his mother's life during her cancer struggle. He generously donated £100,000 to them to build a cancer centre on the island of Madeira.
