Marla McEntire, a 34-year-old woman from Georgia, gave birth to a five-pound, 18-inch baby boy without realizing she was pregnant.
She had been on birth control and had missed
only one period during the 40 weeks she carried the baby.
After taking a pregnancy test that showed
negative results, she dismissed her missed period. McEntire mistook her labor
pains for constipation and gave birth in the toilet.
In a TikTok video, McEntire shared her story
with her followers. She explained that she never experienced morning sickness,
felt the baby kick, or noticed any changes in her belly button or stomach.
Around January, she began experiencing hip pain and stomach issues and sought
medical help. However, no one detected that she was pregnant.
“That night I thought I was constipated. I
sent my dad to the store to get me laxatives and I went back and forth to the
bathroom about five times. And then on the fifth time is when Atlas came,”
McEntire said.
McEntire had been on birth control since she
was 18 years old. She had never had a pregnancy scare before and had no idea
she was carrying a baby.
She continued, “I had just had Atlas in the
toilet, I looked down and see that he's alive and I yell for my dad. My dad
comes in there and helps me get the baby out of the toilet because obviously he
is still attached at this point, and it's a little hard for me to get him
out."
The baby was alive, and McEntire's father,
Kevin, called 911 for advice. The EMTs instructed Kevin to tie off the
umbilical cord, but he felt uncomfortable doing so. He used a chip clip to
secure the cord until the EMTs arrived.
McEntire told the New York Post that her
bathroom “looked like a murder scene,” and the father-daughter duo was trying
to stay as calm as possible. Eventually, they were taken to the hospital, and
both mother and baby are doing well.
“There are still some issues with the
paternity of the father that I'm dealing with,” McEntire told the publication.
She is grateful for her family and friends who banded together to help buy baby
equipment and supplies needed at such short notice.
