Abure Remains National chairman
Twenty-eight state chairmen of Labour Party on Friday took back the party's national secretariat in Utako, Abuja, declaring that Julius Abure remains their national chairman.
This action comes after a faction of the
party led by Bashir Apapa had taken over the secretariat last Thursday before
the police intervened.
The 28 state chairmen of the party, led by
spokesperson Kehinde Rotimi, forcefully reclaimed the secretariat and addressed
reporters on the matter. Rotimi expressed their amazement at the reported
invasion of the party's secretariat by hoodlums and thugs who destroyed
properties and carted away documents.
Rotimi also claimed that the perpetrators had
committed atrocities that are not in tandem with the rule of law and that some
of the suspects have been suspended and are no longer members of the party.
Furthermore, some of them had sold the party to other political parties.
"We are saying it that we cannot be
intimidated; we cannot be cowed. Labour Party has come to stay in Nigeria. We
want to advise all political parties to allow us, leave us alone," Rotimi
stated.
The party is still investigating the matter
to determine if there were any violations of their rights as a political party.
