Report of Wike's son shot dead in US fake - Rivers govt

The Rivers State Government has debunked purported social media reports that Governor Nyesom Wike's son was killed in the United States.

Rivers State Information and Communications Commissioner, Chris Finebone said this in response to the viral post on social media that Wike's son was shot dead in the United States  over alleged actions by Gov. Wike at the just-concluded presidential election in Rivers.

The Post headlined, "Breaking News: Wike's Only Son Shot Dead in California, USA, was due his Father's action in Rivers Election.  The news showed the governor's son in convocation gown at his graduation in a United Kingdom University last year, with Wike, his wife Justice Suzette and their daughter posing for the cameras.

Mr Finebone said in a statement titled "Yet Another Lie" sent to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Wednesday stated that the governor  has no child or children in the United States.

He said the fast was the work of people he described as despicable people bent on blackmailing and besmirching the reputation of the Rivers State governor, and urged the public to disregard it.

The statement said in part: “This is a big lie by the wrong people. For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Nyesom Wike has no son or child in the United States. By the special grace of God the governor's children are safe, where they are.

“This satanic rumor is yet another fabrication of evil men in their insidious attempt to blackmail and sully Governor Wike's image. There is absolutely no truth to this cheap extortion.

"The public should ignore it and throw it in the trash  where it belongs.
